Missy the Cat

This sculpture is named after my cat Missy, who I lost to heart complications. I've had this model for many years and always felt her name suited it perfectly, she was endlessly patient, quietly determined, and the kind of cat who made coming home feel like the best part of the day. Printed and finished right here at my workshop in the Netherlands.

✦ About Missy

Missy had a very specific approach to lap time: she wouldn't just jump up uninvited. Instead, she would sit on the desk and stare at me until I gave in and made room for her. It always worked. The moment I got home she'd come running to the door to greet me, her primordial pouch swaying from side to side as she trotted down the hall (I called it her garden pants, which she bore with great dignity). She had a way of making you feel like the most important person in the world, as long as you were also willing to share your lap.

The photos i added show Missy exactly as I want to remember her: sitting on my lap, looking up at me with that soft, loving expression she saved for her quieter moments. I hope she brings a little of that same warmth to wherever she ends up on your shelf.

✦ Fun Fact

Cats have a specialised pouch of skin along their belly called a primordial pouch, and despite many theories, scientists still aren't entirely sure what it's for. Leading ideas include extra protection during fights, room to stretch and sprint, and storage for when food is plentiful. Missy's garden pants, for the record, were purely decorative and entirely perfect.

Missy's measurements are approximately [dimensions] cm (L × W × H). Because Missy was designed as a figurine and not as a toy, please be careful with her when children are around, everything has been sanded down where needed for safety, but some sharp parts could still be present.

✦ Finish and care

Living with a print

Layer lines, honestly

It's a print, so it reads like one up close. Seams get sanded, supports get cleaned off, nothing gets filled in to fake a moulded look.

Keep it out of hot cars

PLA starts to soften around 50 °C. A sunny windowsill is fine: a parked car in August is not.

Dusting

Dry brush or a soft cloth. If it needs more than that, lukewarm water and patience: no solvents.
