Marina the Whale

Marina the Whale carries the quiet vastness of the ocean with her wherever she goes, which, right now, is your shelf. This hand-finished 3D printed sculpture is printed and finished right here at my workshop in the Netherlands, and she arrives ready to bring a little of the deep blue into your space.

✦ About Marina

Marina loves deep water, long journeys, and the kind of stillness that only exists far out at sea. She's a calming presence on any shelf, the kind of figurine that makes a room feel a little more expansive and a little more peaceful. She pairs beautifully with other ocean-minded companions, but is equally happy sailing solo on a bookshelf or desk.

✦ Fun Fact

Whales are among the longest-lived animals on Earth, bowhead whales can live for over 200 years, meaning some alive today were born before the invention of the steam engine. They're also among the most communicative, with some species singing songs that travel thousands of kilometres through the ocean. Marina has a lot to say, but she prefers to let her presence speak for itself.

Marina's measurements are approximately [dimensions] cm (L × W × H). Because Marina was designed as a figurine and not as a toy, please be careful with her when children are around, everything has been sanded down where needed for safety, but some sharp parts could still be present.

✦ Finish and care

Living with a print

Layer lines, honestly

It's a print, so it reads like one up close. Seams get sanded, supports get cleaned off, nothing gets filled in to fake a moulded look.

Keep it out of hot cars

PLA starts to soften around 50 °C. A sunny windowsill is fine: a parked car in August is not.

Dusting

Dry brush or a soft cloth. If it needs more than that, lukewarm water and patience: no solvents.
