Great Waves - Bookmark

€4,99 Taxes included · shipping at checkout

One of the most recognisable images in the history of art, now keeping your place in a book, which feels entirely appropriate. The Great Waves bookmark is a hand-finished 3D printed reinterpretation of Katsushika Hokusai's iconic woodblock print The Great Wave off Kanagawa, printed right here at my workshop in the Netherlands.

✦ About This Bookmark

This bookmark faithfully captures the sweeping drama of Hokusai's original composition, the curling crest of the great wave, the sense of immense natural force frozen in a single moment: rendered in 3D and sized to sit elegantly in any book. A small hole at the top lets you attach a tassel or ribbon of your own choosing. A wonderful gift for lovers of Japanese art and culture, history readers, or anyone who appreciates beautiful design that carries a little more meaning than the average bookmark.

✦ Finish and care

Living with a print

Layer lines, honestly

It's a print, so it reads like one up close. Seams get sanded, supports get cleaned off, nothing gets filled in to fake a moulded look.

Keep it out of hot cars

PLA starts to soften around 50 °C. A sunny windowsill is fine: a parked car in August is not.

Dusting

Dry brush or a soft cloth. If it needs more than that, lukewarm water and patience: no solvents.
