Available variants
Here’s an overview of the variants:
- "DIY" provides you with the 3D prints smoothed out and ready for assembly using the provided manual
- "Partially Assembled" gives you the above, but I assemble the more complex parts for you.
- "Stellar" means I fully assemble the kit for you, so you can use it right away!
Assembly tips
If you want to take the "DIY" or "Partially Assembled" route, I recommend having at least these things at the ready for when you are going to assemble your kit. Taking the proper precautions allows you to have all the fun and as little worries as possible during your assembly.
- CA (cyanoacrylate) glue
- Feel free to use your favorite brand, but make sure it has an application tip!
- If you never used it before: a little smear of glue goes a long way!
- And of course: use protection for your hands and surfaces! This stuff really gets stuck.
- Tweezers
- Can be useful for keeping some small parts in place if needed
- A sheet or some paper to work on
- Just make sure you don't damage any surfaces
- Proper protective gear for your hands, eyes, etc.
- Wear a long sleeve shirt, even hand and eye protection when needed.
- Take your time and enjoy the process!
- It's all about having fun and seeing your work progress as you go, so take your time and stop to admire the details of what you're doing every now and then.
And now, some trivia
A Contest-Exclusive Catch
Introduced in Generation II, the Sport Ball is exclusively used during the Bug-Catching Contest held at Johto’s National Park. Trainers receive 20 Sport Balls at the start of the event, and any unused ones are returned afterward — making it one of the few Poké Balls not stored in the player’s Bag.
Anime Strategy Spotlight
In Pokémon the Series: Gold and Silver, the Bug-Catching Contest is briefly referenced, though the Sport Ball itself doesn’t appear prominently. However, its contest-exclusive nature has made it a fan-favorite among collectors and competitive cosplayers looking to recreate niche Trainer roles.
Unlock Conditions in Modern Games
Starting with Pokémon Sword and Shield’s Isle of Armor DLC, the Sport Ball became obtainable outside of contests, though only through special events or as part of limited distributions. Despite this, its catch rate modifier was reduced to 1×, making it more of a novelty than a tactical tool.
Design Origins
The Sport Ball features a bold red-and-white shell with a stylized seam resembling a baseball stitch — a nod to its athletic theme. Originally called the Park Ball in Generation II, its name was changed to avoid confusion with the later-introduced Park Ball used in Pal Park transfers.
